Each year, Edelman conducts detailed market research into the components of trust in business and other key institutions. In 2010, the tenth year of the study, the survey measures trust in institutions and industry sectors in 22 countries among high income, tertiary educated people, 1,575 of which are in Asia Pacific. This is the second year the survey has included Australian data.
Summary
As Australia emerges from the GFC, levels of trust in government have fallen (down 15% to 41%). This is in contrast to other developed economies where trust in government has risen. Business on the other hand is gradually improving with trust rising 4% from 2009.
Confidence is recovering in most Australian industry sectors, except energy which dropped 5 points from last year to 37 per cent. Trust in NGO’s is also on the rise with 62 per cent of Australians more likely to trust a company that partners with NGOs to battle global issues than a company that works alone, and this is echoed globally.
