Michelle Hutton
CEO, Australia

Michelle Hutton is Edelman Australia's Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining Edelman, Michelle was the Chief Executive, Australasia of Hill & Knowlton. She also led the brand marketing communication practice for the company across Asia Pacific.

She has had a distinguished 15 year career at Hill & Knowlton, which culminated in the Australian office being named PR Week’s Public Relations Agency of the Year for Asia-Pacific in 2007. Under Michelle's leadership, Hill & Knowlton had tripled in size in Australia, becoming one of the country’s leading public relations firms.

During her 20 years in the marketing and public relations industry, Michelle has worked with many leading brands, including the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Westpac, Canon, Sony Ericsson, The Coca-Cola Company, Kellogg, Ford and Unilever. She is also a Governor of AmCham and sits on the NSW State Advisory Council for CEDA.

David McCarthy

Managing Director, Corporate Practices, APAC

David McCarthy has more than 20 years experience in strategic communications counsel in Europe, Asia and Australia, and is a specialist in corporate and healthcare communications.

Prior to joining Edelman, David was head of corporate communications for Telstra Corporation, where he led the Corporate Affairs team responsible for CEO and corporate reputation management. During this period, David instigated company wide reputation measurement and tracking, CEO and senior executive positioning programs and a centralised issues management approach for Australia's largest corporation.

He was also responsible for communications surrounding Telstra's role in the T3 privatisation debate, and drove key message research and development as the basis for successful issues management as a standard Telstra modus operandi.

David was previously Chairman of Burson-Marsteller's Asia Pacific healthcare practice based in Singapore, and held other senior management roles within that company in London and Melbourne.

Alexandra Kelly
General Manager, Sydney

Alexandra is General Manager of Edelman's Sydney office.  She has more than 13 years experience as a communications strategist for some of the world’s leading brands and corporations.

Formerly Senior Vice President & Head of Client Services at Weber Shandwick Australia, Alex guided strategy for both b2b and b2c communications across an array of companies including Olympus Imaging Australia; Nestle Cereal Partners; Nestle confectionary & corporate; CSR Australia, Singapore Airlines; Unilever; Sanofi-Aventis; and Johnson & Johnson Pacific.

Alex's areas of speciality include: brand communications, community relations campaign development, corporate social responsibility, stakeholder communications, product recall strategy and issues management.

Under her stewardship, Weber Shandwick's consumer marketing team based out of Sydney had become the fastest growing practice group in the APAC region, as well as one of the most recognised externally. In 2008/9 alone, the consumer team won an unprecedented 5 awards at national and international level.

Rhys Ryan

General Manager, Melbourne

Rhys Ryan is General Manager of the Melbourne office.

Rhys has management responsibility for clients including Kraft, Coles, 7-Eleven, BASF and Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, following more than ten years’ experience in media and communications. Rhys previously held a role as Principal with Porter Novelli, where he spent six years working with a mix of corporate and consumer clients, across corporate positioning, crisis and issues management, stakeholder engagement and influencer marketing

Rhys led Porter Novelli’s work with Coles during and beyond the Wesfarmers acquisition, as well as work with wind farmer Acciona Energy, the Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry [DAFF], the Victorian Association of Forest Industries, Colonial First State Property Management, Mercy Health & Aged Care and the Tasmanian Salmon Growers’ Association. This work entailed corporate positioning, issues and crisis management, international marketing with DAFF and public affairs.

Rhys has also led consumer marketing activity with clients including Procter & Gamble, [Gillette, Oral-B, Duracell, Braun] J. Boag & Son, Dulux and the Australian Dental Association.

His time with Porter Novelli included two years in New York City, taking him into diverse areas of the communications arena for clients such as GlaxoSmithKline and Procter & Gamble - from public awareness anti-smoking campaigns in conjunction with NASCAR to celebrity negotiations and pan-American publicity campaigns, as well as post-Katrina communications for P&G's manufacturing plants in New Orleans.

Rhys began his career in communications for a publicly listed new media company, and spent two years as a journalist/producer for news and talk radio.

Nic Jarvis

Director, Corporate

Nic Jarvis has held a number of roles in corporate public relations and communications in Melbourne and Sydney for more than a decade. Prior to joining the public relations industry he worked in state and federal politics as a senior adviser.

Nic specialises in corporate communications and profiling, strategic counsel, issues and crisis management, public affairs and advising senior management and boards on major initiatives that include takeovers, launches of new products and services, management profile and investor relations.

He leads a team of strong communications professionals in Edelman’s Sydney office who provide high-level counsel to the firm’s Australian and global clients many of which are listed on the stock exchange.

Before joining Edelman Nic worked for a major Sydney-based public relations agency and has worked in large and boutique consultancies advising a wide range of clients.

Anna MacIntosh

Director, Consumer Marketing

Anna is responsible for overseeing the strategy and implementation of communications campaigns for Edelman’s consumer marketing clients.  Anna has over 13 years consumer agency PR experience within Australia, specifically in the FMCG, lifestyle, news, major events and sporting arenas.

Her expertise lies in the areas of media strategy and planning, brand and product communications, stakeholder relations, sponsorship leveraging and experiential. Anna has worked on the some of the largest events in the country including the opening of the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE), Australia Day, Breakfast on the Bridge, Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, 2004 Olympic Torch Relay Sydney and Melbourne, Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and the Centenary of Federation.

Prior to joining Edelman, Anna was Director of the Consumer Lifestyle practice at Hill & Knowlton where she was responsible for growing the division and leading and inspiring a team of ten consultants. She also worked at Zing as Group Account Director where she was responsible for leading the charge on the Coca-Cola business and a number of other FMCG clients including Unilever and Nestle.

Prior to Zing, Anna was the Marketing and PR Manager for wine company Eden Road Wines where she was responsible for marketing the company’s wine labels locally and internationally.

Joanne Galea

Director, Healthcare

Joanne Galea has extensive experience in developing and executing strategic healthcare communications campaigns at an international and local level, for both internal and external audiences, gained both in agency and within global pharmaceutical companies.

Joanne has managed international and local issues, including corporate reputation issues and product-related issues such as recalls, product tampering and adverse events.

She has devised and delivered high-impact communications campaigns for consumer health and wellness, over-the-counter, ethical and animal health products.

She has partnered with senior executives to deliver change management programs associated with restructures, as well as employee engagement programs to help organizations meet business objectives.

Joanne has an intimate understanding of the Medicines Australia and Australian Self Medication Industry Codes of Conduct, and takes a collaborative approach with clients to overcome communications challenges.

Matthew Gain

Head of Digital Communication

Matthew Gain leads Edelman’s Australian Digital Practice, working on brands including LinkedIn, BlackBerry and PayPal among others.

A digital and social media specialist, Matthew has consulted and led digital and PR campaigns  both here in Australia and internationally for brands including, MasterCard, Microsoft, Xbox, Vodafone, Proctor and Gamble Hyundai and Motorola.

Previous to working at Edelman, Matthew led Weber Shandwick’s Digital Practice across the APAC region. Matthew has also worked within the consumer marketing division for Microsoft in the UK where he was responsible for consumer PR and digital engagement. Prior to that Matthew held an account director role at Jackie Cooper Public Relations where he led the Xbox account for the UK and was an account lead on Motorola Europe.
